One Year Deepening Course in Yoga and Philosophy: “Beyond Asana”

  • Date: Thu 02 Sep 2027 – Sun 28 May 2028
  • Location: Sweden, Stockholm
  • Organiser: Maria Boox
  • Price: 38,500SEK
  • In-person

About the immersion

“Beyond Asana” is a deepening course for those who have a regular yoga practice and a longing to explore the different dimensions of yoga, beyond the physical postures.

During four extended weekends, we deepen our exploration of yoga philosophy, tradition and practice. We bring the teachings together with the four directions of the shamanic medicine wheel and explore the connection between body, mind, energy and consciousness.

The Bhagavad Gita will be one of the central philosophical threads of the course. Throughout the year, we follow its 18 chapters and allow the teachings to unfold from Arjuna’s existential crisis and the question of dharma, through knowledge, meditation and love, to moksha – freedom.

We’ll also study selected parts of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and Vedanta, the chakra system – the subtle energy system of the body – as well as the yoga tradition and various tools for self-inquiry and transformation.

Ayurveda will be another important part of the course. We explore how Ayurvedic knowledge can help us understand the needs of the body and mind, our different constitutions and how we can create greater balance through our daily routines, lifestyle and yoga practice.

Through sound meditation, we have the opportunity to explore vibration, sound and silence as tools for meditation, presence and deeper connection with ourselves.

This course is aimed at those who wish to deepen their understanding of the Ashtanga yoga tradition while also exploring the broader dimensions of yoga. You should have your own regular yoga practice, some knowledge of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and a passionate interest in deepening your understanding of the wonderful world of yoga.

Each student will receive a personal pranayama practice that will develop and deepen throughout the year. In this way, you’ll have the opportunity to create a more individual and sustainable practice that can stay with you long after the course has ended.

Between each course weekend, assignments will be given to help you deepen the process.

This course will strengthen you as a person, yoga practitioner and teacher and give you new perspectives and tools to take with you both onto the mat and into life. The course is a journey through both the outer and inner landscapes of yoga, from asana and breath to philosophy, energy, sound, meditation and self-inquiry. Ultimately, Beyond Asana is about allowing yoga to become a part of life.

Anna Hennig will assist throughout the course and be there as additional support during your journey.

The journey

The course extends over one year and comprises approximately 200 hours of shared study, personal practice and independent work. We meet during four extended weekends where the days are filled with Mysore practice, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, lectures, group work, conversations and reflection. Each weekend has its own theme and everything is woven together throughout the year.

Between the weekends, you continue your own asana practice and pranayama, deepen your studies through selected yoga literature and work with assignments and reflection questions. During the year, we’ll also have two shared Zoom sessions.

We’ll also have lectures with Johan Ljungsberg on Ayurveda, Jeanette Kroona on the vagus nerve and bandhas, as well as a sound meditation with Annica Lynton.

The course days will be filled with personal practice, pranayama, lectures, group work and much more. We begin the days at 8:00 am with pranayama and Mysore practice, and finish at 5:00 pm, except on Sunday when we finish at 2:00 pm.

A diploma will be awarded during the final weekend. A minimum of 90% attendance is required to receive the diploma.

In the temple of your own body, within the heart is a lotus flower. Within the lotus is an illuminated jewel space. Find who dwells in this precious space within your heart. Know that person, love that being. That is you. - Chandogya Upanishad
